COURSE DESCRIPTION

Welcome to the world of musical discovery! This Music Appreciation class will focus on music history, an overview of the arts in general during parallel style periods, and the basic components of music theory.

Music History/Culture may be selected from the following:

Classic Style Periods            Spirituals

Pop Music                              Church Music

Musicals                                 Opera

Composers                            Famous Musicians

Movie Music                            Vaudeville/Broadway

                 

Required Classroom Materials

  • 2 Pencils (Daily)  Your work must be completed in pencil .
  • Binder with Notebook Paper

 

 Class Expectations
Students are expected to follow the rules outlined below:

  • Obey all school rules.
  • Participate in all classroom activities.
  • Arrive on time to class with necessary materials and take your seat for attendance.
  • Be courteous and show respect to others.
  • No food, candy, drinks, or gum in the classroom.  Bottled water is ok.
  • Take risks – Try new things, stretch what you think you can do, push yourself to new levels. Don’t be afraid. Surprise yourself and others at your new capabilities and confidence.
  •  Be Curious – You will be exposed to all types of music styles and genres. Keep an open mind to music you have never heard as well as music you have heard before. Discover  the value of all music.
  • Quizzes/Tests – Quizzes and tests will be held through the school year. Some will be paper and pencil tests and others will be performance based.
  • Have Fun – Enjoy the musical experience and the camaraderie that comes with working with other people who enjoy music with you

The student’s grade will be determined by the following:

Extra Credit:

Students will have the opportunity to earn extra credit throughout the school year by attending professional music concerts.
