The McGill-Toolen Foundation

Building a Foundation for the Future

Founded in 1978, the McGill-Toolen Foundation began with a simple purpose: rallying alumni support for McGill-Toolen Catholic High School and establishing a diocesan office to coordinate fundraising efforts. Out of this original foundation came the Catholic High Schools Alumni Association (CHSAAM) and the school's first annual fund campaign.

In 1996, Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb authorized a reconstitution of the Foundation, giving it a new focus: building lasting, reliable financial support for the school. The endowment hit its first major milestone in 1997, surpassing $1,000,000, and has grown steadily since through careful investment in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds, along with planned giving and a share of the Annual Fund's proceeds. To date, the endowment has directed more than $1,000,000 back into the school's operating budget and special initiatives.

At its core, the McGill-Toolen Foundation exists to safeguard the school's financial future- ensuring that a Catholic education remains within reach for every student, regardless of family finances. In support of that mission, the Foundation focuses on three key non-tuition revenue sources to help keep tuition affordable:
