- Description
-
This beginner’s Spanish course introduces students to the vocabulary, grammar, and basics of the Spanish language. While some may have taken some Spanish in middle school, Spanish 1 at the secondary level is a much more focused course which covers a greater amount of material. The main goal of the course is for students to develop their oral and written communication in Spanish. Spanish 1 emphasizes simple grammatical structures, basic vocabulary, and the essentials of communication. In addition, a great amount of time is devoted to studying and learning about the various cultures of the Hispanic world. Multimedia such as audio recordings of native speakers and videos and films are an integral part of the course. Students will learn about variations in the Spanish language. Knowledge of contemporary Spanish cultures is enhanced through the use of media, games, readings, and small/large group discussions. In addition to traditional tests for evaluation, students will complete performance assessments in which they must use language skills to create authentic products (e.g., menus, journal entries, newspaper articles, presentations). Spanish 1 allows students to communicate effectively with others in Spanish.

Conversation Quizzes – Thursday, October 8, 2014
Throughout the class, you will have an assignment to be working on silently. I will be calling students aside one at a time. I will ask you a series of approximately four questions, and all you need to do is respond appropriately, as if you were having a typical conversation.
Begin by saying hello and telling me your name. Then, we’ll have our conversation, and then, say thank you and goodbye. Think of this as a casual conversation. I will ask questions along the lines of the ones below:
¿Cómo eres? ¿Qué tipo de persona eres?
¿De dónde eres?
¿De qué nacionalidad eres?
¿Es grande o pequeña la clase de español?
¿Cómo es la clase de ____?
¿Qué es un curso difícil?
¿Qué es un curso fácil?
¿Qué es un curso interesante?
¿Qué es un curso aburrido?
