Assignment
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. By Monday, please read chapters 16-18 by Monday. Continue to add to your threads. You should add a minimum of three entries by Monday. Remember, do not give plot line. Share them with your group members.
Have a super weekend,
Mrs. Carter
GO DAWGS!
Due:
Assignment
I hope today's class was beneficial. Today's lesson was a close reading. We are going to work on Roger Chillingworth on Monday and Tuesday. My intention is to have Wednesday's class be an inclass reading day. This will give me a chance to review everyone's grades. Most importantly, I think we can rework the reading schedule. I would like everyone to have chapters 12-15 read by next Thursday. This means annotate. Continue to watch your threads develop. This will help with the next part of the thread assignment.
Don't forget to share your threads on the Google Drive by Sunday at 11PM.
As always...
go to church,
do something nice for one of your parents,
say a prayer for someone who needs it.
God bless,
Mrs. Carter

SOAPStone activity (political cartoons) is due Friday at 7:40AM
Read chapters 12-14 in The Scarlet Letter for Monday. This means annotations too.
Your first group of threads are due on Sunday evening at 11:00PM.
God bless,
Mrs. Carter
Due:
Assignment
After asking me in class to reconsider the due date for The Scarlet Letter questions and emailing me twice, John Strope has worn me down. I will change the due date for the questions from Friday morning at 7:40 to Sunday evening at 11:00PM. They will still be put on Moodle. I cannot make any concessions regarding late work. Please still be ready for a reading comprehension quiz over chapters 1-4 on Friday.
You need to thank John!
Have a great evening,
Mrs. Carter
Due:
Assignment
I have given you an outline for next week. Look at the details. Please budget your time. I am not accepting late work.
1. Found Poems- This is due on Wednesday evening at 11:00PM. The information is located on Moodle. I will give you twenty minutes to work together on Tuesday.
2. "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God"- This link can be found on Moodle under The Scarlet Letter. You may print it out or write your annotations on paper. Either way, these annotations must be complete by Monday's class.
3. Read chapters 1-4 in The Scarlet Letter by Wednesday. You do not need to read "The Custom House." The questions for The Scarlet Letter are due Friday morning by 7:40AM. The questions are located on Moodle under The Scarlet Letter. This must be turned in on Moodle. If you have issues at home, you need to get to school so that you can post from the library or a computer in my room. No late work.
This week requires you to budget your time. Waiting until the night before to get started is not advisable.
As always...

Semicolon Exercise
You have a handout on semicolons. You are to write a well-written sentence using each common rule. Please look for the template on Google Classroom. These sentences should be turned in to the Google Classroom by Wednesday morning at 7:40.
Enjoy the day,
Mrs. Carter
Due:
Assignment
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. I wanted to give you information concerning some of the upcoming assignments.
1. Tone Words #2: laudatory, ominous, patronizing, indignant, impassioned
Please note: I did not take off for grammatical errors on the first set. This time I will be looking at the grammar. You should include some type of verbal in each sentence you create. Be sure you that you achieve the desired tone. This should be posted to Moodle by Friday morning by 7:40.
2. Literary Analysis: Please look at the thesis statements you wrote. I made comments to help you. Remember to include a debatable position. You should begin writing your literary analysis on The Road. This is due Thursday morning by 7:40. You will need to post it to Turnitin too. We will discuss this in class.
I will post the rubric on Moodle. It gives the requirements (absolute phrases, participial phrases, a gerund as a subject, etc.). Please look at this carefully.
These are the big assignments. Please plan your time.
I am posting grades today and tomorrow. There is a big difference between a field with no grade and one with a zero or "M." The former has not been posted yet. Please review these. Several people are "opting out" of assignments. Understand that zeros have a way of catching up to you.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs. Carter
GO DAWGS!
Due:
Assignment
1. You need to post your thesis statements to Moodle. Look under The Road for Add Your Thesis Here.
If your document is on a Google Doc, you should go to File and Click on Download. Select Word Document. Give your file a name. Go to Moodle (Add Your Thesis Here). Choose your saved file. Click Upload. It should tell you that the file uploaded successfully.
2. Study for vocabulary test; it is tomorrow. (Remember to review your tone words too.)
3. Complete Literary Analysis Outline for Thursday
4. Tone word quiz on Friday
Due:
Assignment
1. Complete units 1 and 2 in vocabulary book for Friday.
2. Everyone should submit a completed Tone Word Chart by 7:30 on Friday morning.
3. Those students who are submitting the situational sentences for a specific tone word should submit these on the Google Drive by Thursday evening at 9:00.
4. McCarthy's "Bare Bones" Writing assignment should be completed by Wednesday evening at 11:00.
Due:

Please annotate Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Dr. Heidegger's Experiment" for Monday's class. You should answer the two questions. In addition, you should complete PART B. Your sentence should model Hawthorne's sentence.
F Period is required to turn this assignment on the Google Drive. C and D may do this, but it is not required.
A couple people were absent today, so I shared these documents with everyone.
As always...
go to church,
do something nice for your mom or dad,
and say a prayer for someone who needs it.

We discussed the importance of using the literary present tense when writing literary critiques. Here is a copy of the handout I referred to in class. I think it will be helpful to you. I will also share it with you on the Google Drive.
