Description
Earth and Space Science introduces students to an advanced look at the Earth’s near neighborhood and perspectives of the universe from the Earth. Students conduct field and laboratory investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions based on critical thinking and problem solving. Emphasis is on topics related to biogeochemical cycles, origin and evolution of the Earth system, energy in the Earth system, and origin and evolution of the universe.

Be prepared to use your rock ID charts to answer questions about rocks and identify samples
Know the rock cycle
Be able to answer questions using the Bowen’s reaction series diagram.
Know the 3 basic types of rocks and their characteristics (e.g. igneous rocks have interlocking mineral crystals textures such as phaneritic, porphyritic, and aphanitic what these crystal sizes tell us about the cooling rates of the magma/lava)

The test on Monday November 3rd will include Sun-Earth-Moon  system topics of eclipses, tides, seasons; Solar structure, formation of the Moon; Kepler's laws; minerals and chemistry review. Check webspace for powerpoints. Chapters in the book are Chapter 26 pp 734-736, Chapter 27 pp 756-758, Chapter 28 pp 789-798, Chapter 29 pp 826-832; Chapters 4 and 5.

Finish reading Chapter 27 in your book. Find another theory for the formation of the solar system (besides condensation theory). Write a short description (paragraph) of the theory and cite your source. You can use books or the web. I have links on my web space that can help. Be prepared to present the theory to the class tomorrow.

The following problems in your book are intended to focus your study efforts, have an 85-90% probability of being on the test in some way shape or form and if turned in on test days has the potential of earning up to 10% extra credit.
 
Extra credit amount and acceptability is at my discretion and will be based on effort and amount of original work. So, do not copy. You can discuss the problems with friends but for maximum benefit you need to put the answers in your own words.
