Description

Syllabus for Latin II

Latin Club

Please remember to check "Links" on my main page for information relevant to all classes, such as the list of Latin prayers (with links to videos to help with pronunciation).

In order to qualify for the CP2 course, a student must have completed Latin I with at least a “C” average and have teacher approval. Honors students must have at least an 85 average. Second year Latin presents advanced grammatical structures. There is a continuing emphasis on English derivatives as well as Latin phrases and quotations. Translation of Greek myths, stories about famous people, and Roman history provide the student with a rich cultural background in literature, history, and geography. Students will begin reading adapted Latin by Roman authors and authentic Latin in short poems.

Assignment

There has been some confusion over the next Livy reading. Many of you received a paper copy on Feb. 13, but some were absent. You'll start on the left side of first sheet (p. 125, "The next consuls were . . .") and continue to the top of the last page (p. 140 - just the first two lines).

Please complete this reading by Tuesday, March 3. Be sure to take notes on the reading; you may use the notes if they are in your own handwriting on a sheet of paper with no other information.

All students are required to download this document and complete it as a review of 3rd conjugation. It is a graded homework assignment. If you want to work with a partner, make sure that everyone involved is working on every question. "Divide and conquer" does not help you understand the material. Doing it yourself is necessary.

If you scored below 17/20 (85%) on the quiz, you must retake it in class on Tuesday. If you scored 17-17.5, then you may retake it. In either case, the highest possible grade on the retake is 18/20 (90%).
