Description

This course provides a survey of American Literature and works by various American authors as well as two Shakespearean plays. We will study a variety of types of works including novels, plays, short stories, non-fiction essays, and poetry. We will not only focus on the works themselves, but also the themes connecting these works together.  Writing will be emphasized with a focus on literary analysis and essay composition. We will target vocabulary enrichment by the use of Vocabulary Workshop Level E: Enrichment Edition. By the end of the year, we will complete the prescribed vocabulary program. We will also complete a research project.

Now that we have gone over DIDLS and analyzed passages together, try to annotate Chapter 39 from "All Over But The Shoutin'" on your own and determine the tone. Consider the list of tone words in your packet, but also consider other words that come to mind. Dictionaries and thesaurus can be helpful with this! Come with the tone you have determined and the evidence from DIDLS to support it. Also, do not forget to study for your Vocab Test!
