St. Augustine Scholarship Program

 

 

 

The St. Augustine Scholarship application is now closed for the 2024-2025 school year.  The deadline for the application was December 31,2023.  Applicants awarded a scholarship will be notified in the spring.  

Applications for the 2025-2026 school year will open on November 1, 2024.

ST. AUGUSTINE SCHOLARSHIP FUND: A CATHOLIC EDUCATION IS A GIFT

THAT LASTS A LIFETIME

 

Ensure that a Catholic education is available to deserving students by contributing to the St. Augustine Scholarship Fund.  The St. Augustine Scholarship Fund assists students who embody the values and the ideals that we seek in our McGill-Toolen Catholic students, but whose families do not qualify for financial aid at McGill-Toolen Catholic.

 

THE ST. AUGUSTINE SCHOLARSHIP FUND BRIDGES THE TUITION GAP FOR CATHOLIC STUDENTS IN NEED

 

The St. Augustine Scholarship Fund offers a $2,500 tuition scholarship per year ($10,000 to the same student over four years) to ensure that deserving Catholic students will experience all that McGill-Toolen Catholic has to offer.  In particular, the McGill-Toolen Foundation would like to assist those children whose parent or guardian is:

 

* A First Responder  (St. Michael the Archangel Scholarship)

* Serving in the Armed Forces (St. Adrian Scholarship)

*A teacher in the Archdiocese of Mobile (St. John the Baptist De La Salle Scholarship)

*An Employee in the Archdiocese of Mobile (St. Irenaues of Lyons)

*An Alum of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School (St. Louis the IX Scholarship)

 

Also, the St. Augustine Scholarship is available to those children who:

*Are members of the Aquinas Academy (St. Thomas Aquinas Scholarship)

*Demonstrate Exceptional Effort and Attitude (St. Albert the Great)

 

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS?

 

To be eligible for consideration, the applicant must be a registered, incoming freshman at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, meet the following criteria, and provide the required documentation:

 

*The applicant must be a Catholic student currently enrolled in a K-8 partner school within the Mobile Archdiocesan School System or be an active Catholic parishioner enrolled in another school system (Pastor recommendation required for non-partner school students only)

*The applicant must satisfy the requirements of the specific scholarship for which the application is submitted.

*The applicant must submit a verified financial aid application

*The applicant cannot be a recipient of a grant under the Alabama Accountability Act including AOSF or any other SGO.

 

WHAT IS THE AMOUNT AWARDED?

 

Incoming freshman students selected to receive the St. Augustine Scholarship will be awarded $2,500 for four years.  To continue receiving the award annually, students must maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA, adhere to the disciple and attendance policies, and meet all financial obligations to the school.  The total potential value of the scholarship is $10,000 over four years. 

 

 

Thanks to our St. Augustine Scholarships benefactors and proceeds from Dancing with the Stars, we raised  $1 Million over the last 7 years.  With those funds we were able to award 109, $2,500 scholarships to incoming freshman Catholic students. 

 

 

Additionally, the St. Augustine Endowment Fund was established in 2018 to ensure the St. Augustine Scholarship will be awarded to future McT freshman for generations to come.  The St. Augustine Endowment Fund continues to grow and is now over $600,000.  Donors can now designate funds for the St. Augustine Scholarship Endowment Fund as well as the annual Scholarship effort.
