McGill Institute Class of 1970

Skipper Walters attended McGill Institute, graduating in 1970. While at McGill, he was in the Confraternity of the Sacred Heart and played intramural sports. On most afternoons and Saturdays, Skipper was a CYO referee. He is currently on the CYO Board of Directors.

After high school, he enrolled at the University of South Alabama , graduating in 1974 with a bachelor of science degree in Industrial Management/Industrial Engineering and a minor in Finance. From 2006 until 2009, he was a member of the leadership committee for USA 's first ever capital campaign and a lead member of public fund-raising for its new baseball facility. Skipper is currently on the USA Athletic Board.

Skipper went to work for Honeywell International and was awarded the President's Award given to 45 people each year out of 70,000 worldwide employees. Today, he is president and CEO of Walters Controls, Inc., named one of the top 8 of 300 Honeywell contractors in all of North America in 2008. Walters Controls is one of only 9 companies to be a Top 10 Honeywell Contractor for each of the last 10 years.

He currently serves on the McGill-Toolen Foundation Board and Lipscomb Stadium Board, is a solicitor for major gifts to the Annual Fund and is active in Scientia Pro Amore Dei -Knowledge for the Love of God capital campaign for McGill-Toolen through the kitchen cabinet, design charette and construction committee. He was named Board Volunteer of the Year in 2005 and received the Heart of Gold Award in 2008. In addition, he is an active participant in a wide range of activities at McGill-Toolen. He cheers on the teams, sponsors such events as Jacket Jubilation, helps out with Field Day and provides incoming freshmen with McGill-Toolen t-shirts. He is a member of the Serra Club and Legatus, a worldwide organization of Catholic business owners, and is a 3 rd degree knight in the Knights of Columbus.

Skipper and his wife Storey are members of Corpus Christi Parish where he is a Eucharistic Minister. In addition, he was on the school board, president of the athletic board for 3 years, and served on the parish building committee and its capital campaign board. They have three children: Trent , McGill-Toolen '03; Erin , McGill-Toolen '05; and Emily, McGill-Toolen '07. His mother, Emily Turk Walters, now deceased, graduated from Bishop Toolen in 1934 and one of his sisters, Penny W. Colglazier, graduated from Bishop Toolen in 1968.
