Walter Davis Verneuille
Walter Verneuille played four years of golf and one year of football at McGill Institute. His true talent was apparent on the golf course. He played on the junior varsity golf team as a freshman at McGill and received three varsity letters. In his sophomore and junior years, Verneuille qualified for the state tournament individually. He led his team to the state finals in 1971, his senior year. He finished in the Top 10 in the State high school tournament his junior and senior seasons. He won the district high school tournament and won the junior city championship. After completing a stellar senior season, Verneuille received a four-year full golf scholarship to Auburn University.
At Auburn, he received three varsity letters for golf and was named All-Southeastern Conference as a freshman. In 1976, he graduated from the Auburn College of Business.
Walter landed his first job at Radcliff Materials, Inc., as a salesman. In this position, he sold concrete, concrete block and asphalt to contractors and individuals in the Mobile area. After six years at Radcliff Materials, Walter had the opportunity to make a career move by joining Bayou Concrete. This move was the start of a twenty-three year career that is still going. Walter has excelled as sales manager and vice-president of Bayou Concrete and is highly regarded in the industry for his character and professionalism.
Throughout his career, Walter has served in an active capacity in many community organizations including: the Senior Bowl Committee, 1977 until the present; director on the associate board of the Associated General Contractors and the Associated Builders and Contractors. He is a past president of the Mobile Auburn Alumni Association. Walter is also a member of two mystic organizations. He is a founding member of the CHSAAM Joseph Perez Annual Golf Tournament that raises funds for the Eleanor M. Benz Library at McGill-Toolen. In its 17 years, the tournament has raised over $125,000.
Verneuille is married to Kim Mixon, a 1975 McGill-Toolen graduate. They have twin boys, Davis and Drew, who are nine years old and attend St. Ignatius School. His parents were the former Lea Davis and Joseph Ollinger Verneuille, a graduate of Spring Hill High School, Class of 1935. His two brothers, Joe and Lea, also graduated from McGill in 1968 and 1976, respectively.
