McGill Institute Class of ’54

Tut Thublin’s status as All-City, All-County and All-State in both baseball and basketball during his time at McGill earned him a scholarship to Spring Hill College, where he was named the Outstanding Varsity Athlete his senior year. He was also R.O.T.C. Battalion Commander his senior year and vice-president of the senior class. He was a member of The Scabbard and Blade, a national military honor society and Sigma Phi Nu, a national scholastic honor society.

After graduation from Spring Hill College in 1958, Thublin began an eight-year military obligation. He signed a professional baseball contract with the New York Yankee organization and played four years of pro baseball. He was also a basketball official in the Southeastern Conference.

He began his healthcare career in 1961 at the Mobile Infirmary and has served as a hospital administrator and/or hospital controller for eight for-profit hospitals, as CEO of an outpatient multi-clinic group, as owner and operator of two nursing homes, and he owned/built a 64-bed psychiatric hospital in Decatur, Alabama.

Currently, he is president of a medical billing company and spends a lot of time fly fishing and watching his two grandsons’ activities.

Thublin resides in Decatur, Alabama with his wife Vonda. They are blessed with a daughter, Vicki, and a son, Bobby.
