Pat. A McAleer, Sr.Pat A. McAleer Sr.
McGill Institute Class of ’55

The McGill Institute Class of 1955 produced more than just an exceptional athlete in Pat McAleer. Not content to rest on the laurels he earned as a star football player during his days at McGill, McAleer has put into action lessons he learned about what really counts in a person’s life.

McAleer attended Auburn University in the late 50s, working on the co-op plan with the Corps of Engineers. He went on to become a developer and contractor and owns his own company, McAleer and Company.

Most notably, though, McAleer has given of his time, talents and resources to make Mobile and other parts of the world better places. He currently serves on the boards of St. Mary’s Home and Amigos for Christ. He is a volunteer driver for the Red Cross. He has served in the past as president of the McGill-Toolen Foundation Board and as chair for The Shoulder Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Program Board. He worked on St. Dominic’s Church Building Committee and parish council. He and his wife, Kitty Guy McAleer, established the Pat McAleer Jr. Scholarships at McGill-Toolen. These scholarships help students who might not otherwise be able to attend McGill-Toolen. Most recently, as part of his connection with Amigos for Christ, McAleer funded a hospital, water system and dormitory for blind children in Nicaragua.

This former All-City and All-State football player is a good example of how a person defines his life through the choices he makes. Choosing to share their gifts with others is a legacy that he and his wife Kitty leave to their four sons–Patrick Jr. (deceased), J. Guy, MT ’81; Michael, MT ’84; and Daniel, MT ’88–and their five grandchildren.
