McGill Institute Class of ’59
Dr. James M. Harrison graduated from McGill Institute in 1959 and was very active in the school athletic program. He played varsity football, basketball and baseball. He lettered twice in football and basketball and once in baseball. He was a member of the 1958 city championship football team and earned Player of the Week Award and Second Team All-City honors during his senior year.
After graduation from McGill, Dr. Harrison attended Spring Hill College and received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Alabama in 1962. He then entered the University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham and completed his studies there in three years. His internship was at Mobile General Hospital, and in1967 he received the Outstanding Intern Award from that hospital. Dr. Harrison is also a community leader and a member of numerous organizations including the American Board of Ophthalmology, Sunrise Rotary and St. Ignatius Church.
He is married to Marie Waller Harrison and they have four children, two boys and two girls.
