Patrick R. Greenwood
McGill-Toolen Class of ’90
Pat Greenwood enrolled in McGill-Toolen from St. Dominic. He was an honor roll student all 4 years, worked on the Vespidae and was a member of the National Honor Society and the History Club. He played freshman basketball and lettered in track and cross country in ’88, ’89 and ’90. As a senior, he was SGA class vice-president, All-County in track, All-State in cross country and Ideal Male Graduate.
He received a Presidential Scholarship to Loyola University graduating magna cum laude in 1994. Pat was an orientation leader, a member of Alpha Sigma Nu and played on the Loyola basketball team. He worked as assistant sports information director at Tulane and was Loyola’s SID from ’92-’94. He was the radio play-by-play announcer and worked as a statistician for CBS coverage of the Saints and the Final Four. In 1994, Pat was named Outstanding Broadcast Student, Best Sports Information Student in Louisiana and Loyola Rec Plex Employee of the Year.
Currently Pat anchors the morning news at WPMI-TV, hosts SportsDrive on WNSP, and is a high school football sideline reporter for UTV-44. He works for the South Alabama Radio Network as a play-by-play/color analyst and produces/hosts the Joey Jones Show on UTV-44. Pat has received many AP awards including Best Sports Story ’00, Best Sportscaster ’02 and ’04, and Best Sports Program ’03. The Mobile Press Club named him Best Sportscaster ’05. He was the NCEA St. Dominic Distinguished Graduate in ’02.
Pat’s volunteer activities include St. Dominic’s parish council from 2005-08, council president ’08, and a lector and Eucharistic minister since ’08. His CYO works include basketball referee 2004-06, basketball and football coach beginning in ’06 and Toy Bowl banquet keynote speaker in ’01. Pat’s board memberships include the Hearin Chandler YMCA 2004-06, the Yellow Jacket Open Fishing Tournament 2000-02, and Magic Moments 2009- present.
Pat and his wife, Stephanie, have 4 children: Madeleine, 9, Robert, 8, Grace, 6, and Mary Linda, 2. His family graduated from Catholic schools: mother, Ann, Bishop Toolen ’62; father, John, McGill Institute ’59; and sister, Beth G. Mathison, McGill-Toolen ’84.
