Bradley Donaghey has not only brought honor to his alma mater through various civic and professional achievements, but he has also maintained close ties to McGill through the years and devoted much of his time and energy to its success. He is a charter member of the Catholic High Schools Alumni Association of Mobile and a member of the Yellow Jacket Club. He has served on the School Board, the Foundation Board, chaired the 1st Annual Fund Drive and the Centennial “Finding Roots-Gaining Wings” Campaign in 1994, which resulted in the expansion of the library, the addition of the technology labs, and construction of the Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb Athletic Complex. He also chaired the installation of the school’s air conditioning.
Chairman of James B. Donaghey, Inc., Mechanical Contractors, Donaghey graduated from McGill Institute in 1949 and from Auburn University with a bachelor of mechanical engineering degree. He was president of the Mobile Mechanical Contractors Association for four years and a commissioner on the Mobile Board of Water and Sewer Commissioners from 1985-1994, serving as chairman from 1992 to1994. He is secretary/treasurer of the Mobile Employers’ Council, serves on the Alabama Water Resources Board, and belongs to the Professional Engineers of America.
The religious aspect of his McGill education obviously ran deep, as he has also expended his time and talents to help his parish and the archdiocese. He is an usher at St. Ignatius and has served in leadership capacity on the School Board, the PTA, and the Parish Council. He has served as parish, deanery, and district chair of the Catholic Charities Drive. As a member of the Serra Club, he encourages vocations, and he is a Knight of St. Gregory.
He is married to the former Teresa Daniels and they have five children, all of whom are graduates: Lynn Donaghey Clapper, BT ’72; Dr. James B. Donaghey II, MT ’74; Janice Donaghey Reed, MT ’75; Mary Lou Donaghey Hyland, MT ’78; and Patricia Donaghey Vallee, MT ’80.
The Donagheys have eighteen grandchildren, five who have graduated from McGill-Toolen and four in attendance now.
