UPDATE ON OUR 2022 SEASON:

This season was one that each of these runners will never forget. Both the boys and girls teams were very competitive all season. They were bought into the workouts given to them at each practice and proved themselves each day. Our JV boys and girls never stopped listening to the captains of each team. Senior Cunningham Copeland was the captain of the boys team and junior William Blanchette as the co-captain. Seniors, Abby Ferlise and Elizabeth Porr were the captains of the girls team. Our JV boys team, on average, finished 3rd all season and our JV girls finished in 1st place consistently. For our varsity boys team, no matter how young this team was, they quickly realized that they were capable more than they imagined. When talented and older runners graduate from a program, it’s amazing to me how runners under them stop holding back and really go all out and this is truly the case for the boys team. They competed each weekend coming in 3rd each week, but not being counted out as a strong competitor. At the Mobile County Championships meet, our boys finished in 4th place with William Porr and Joshua Sasser making All County. At sectionals meet, our boys team finished 3rd place stamping them a spot in the state meet. The boys team learned a lot that day which fueled them all for the State Meet. Going into the State meet the boys were seeded 13th in the state, but despite the weather, they came in 7th overall in the state with William Porr coming in 3rd place making All State team. Moving on to our varsity girls team, they proved each week they were dominant all season, but remained humble and raced to not just have local teams on their mind, but teams up north as their motivation to continue to race hard. At Mobile County Championships, the varsity girls team finished in 1st place with Anna, Abby, Audrey, Claire, and Lizzie making All County by placing in the top 15. At the sectionals meet, we had a champion finish despite the adversity placed before us. This team rallied together and stepped up to be nothing short of the best. Going into the state meet, our girls team was seeded 2nd and this team also raced hard in the conditions of the rainy weather and the muddy course. We finished in 3rd place overall in the state with Anna Adams and Claire Mostellar making all state. As a team these girls continued to rally behind one another regardless of how we finished. They still showed grace upon one another and compassion. These seniors have left a mark by being inspiring and being leaders regardless of the unexpected.

To add to their success, Mobile County Cross Country head coaches selected a Mobile County All County Team, a Region Super 7 Team, and a recipient for the Coach Angelo Harris Awards. The runners who were selected as All County Team are: Anna Adams, Abby Ferlise, Lizzie Porr, Lexi Bolton, Claire Mostellar, Audrey Woodard, William Porr, and Joshua Sasser. The Region Super 7 Team recipients are: Anna Adams, Abby Ferlise, Lizzie Porr and William Porr. Anna Adams was also named Optimist club runner of the year and signed to Samford University for Cross Country/Track & Field. Lastly Milton Ferlise, father of Abby Ferlise, was named Angelo Harris Award winner by Mobile County teams and coaches.
