Fifty–five students from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School have been awarded the title of “AP Scholar”. They scored 3 out of 5 on at least 3 or more AP Exams. Twelve of them were designated as AP Scholars with Honor because they scored 3.25 or higher on at least 4 AP exams. Thirteen others are AP Scholar with Distinction by scoring 3.5 or higher on at least 5 AP exams.

OLD TESTAMENT (CP1, CP2, Honors) - ½ credit
This course is offered during the first semester of freshman year. It is an introduction to Sacred Scripture as God’s revelation to humanity. The structure and content of the message are studied with an emphasis on understanding the notion of covenant. The Old Testament is studied within the Catholic Tradition, which sees Jesus Christ as the fulfillment of the old law. In addition, students will spend a portion of the course studying an introduction to Catholicism. This brief introduction will acquaint the students with some of the primary teachings of the Catholic Church.
NEW TESTAMENT (CP1, CP2, Honors) - ½ credit
This course, offered during the second semester, will be studied as the message of the fullness of God’s revelation in the person of Jesus Christ. The nature of the Church will also be studied as the community from which the Scriptures developed. In addition, an interdisciplinary seminar on human sexuality is presented.
CHURCH HISTORY (CP1, CP2, Honors) - 1 credit
In this sophomore-level course the student studies the Church’s history from its beginning to the present, exploring the Church’s institutional and doctrinal development. Special emphasis will be given to the development and meaning of the doctrines pertaining to the Trinity, Incarnation, Salvation and the Sacraments.
MORAL VISION OF THE CHURCH (CP1, CP2, Honors) - 1 credit
The focus of this junior-level course is the moral teaching of the Church. The course explores the philosophical ground for the moral positions held by the Church. Matters of personal morality will be explored as well as the Church’s social teaching. The course will explore how each sin hurts the sinner and the community at large.
APOLOGETICS (CP1, CP2, Honors) - ½ credit
Apologetics is the study of the credibility of the revealed doctrines of the Church.
In this course, students will be given an opportunity to study in depth the reasons given for the appropriateness of accepting the Catholic faith. Special emphasis will be placed on how to address the objections to that faith students are likely to encounter after they graduate from high school. This course is for seniors in the fall semester.
CATHOLIC DOCTRINE (CP1, CP2, Honors) - ½ credit
The second semester of the senior year is dedicated to understanding Catholic doctrine. Students will study the doctrinal teachings of the Church in an effort to understand God’s loving plan for their salvation. Special emphasis will be given to the celebration of God’s love in the Sacramental life of the Church.
CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP IN THE MODERN WORLD – ½ or 1 credit
This course is offered for seniors and may be taken one or both semesters. The focus of this course is on skill development and training of students for leadership in the peer ministry setting. Students look at the challenges to be faced in the world today and the way in which they are called to equip themselves to face these challenges. The students seek out inspiration by delving into the lives of the saints and taking a deeper look at scripture. The students implement what they learned as they plan and lead four retreats as well as other ministry and service activities throughout the academic year.
